So I just discovered a crazy good rapper/producer by the handle 'e-dubble' and I'm absolutely loving him. What's so great about e-dubble? Let me count the ways (that he's so great). If you like Girl Talk, which surely you must, then imagine if Girl Talk made hip-hop remixes of various songs across various genres (actually, you don't have to imagine that part), BUT THEN imagine that Girl Talk also RAPPED over the nasty beats he just created, and THEN followed it up with random banter as if the song had suddenly transitioned into a morning radio show. Now stop imagining and check out e-dubble's 52-week Freestyle Friday project where he does exactly that and releases a new track EVERY FRIDAY. Not only does he make awesome use of samples from artists spanning from Penguin Cafe Orchestra (seriously) to Jónsi (see above), he also has amazing flow and clever rhymes. Furthermore, while some people might not like the outro banter after each track, I think it's a fresh, personal glimpse of a hip-hop artist in a genre better known for its over-hyped, egomaniacs whose true personalities are as mysterious as the choice of spelling for their stage names. e-dubble reminds me of that college friend you had, the one who was really laid back and came to your birthday parties with a quarter ounce of premium bud instead of a real present, but you didn't mind because you knew that for him, it actually meant he really cared about you. You had a friend like that, right? Anyways, the entire Freestyle Friday project is available for free online, which further goes to show how awesome this guy is. I bought his purchasable album on principle alone. I haven't even listened to it yet, much like I've never called 911, but still pay my taxes.
