6 Seconds: What We Learned at the Vine Meetup

600_228805842 600_228805932 600_228805942

Here we go...

1. Colin and Dan wanted to create an app

2. What are some good apps that we can reference? Here they are:

- Dark Sky

- Cut The Rope

- Moves

- Will Call

- Über

3. Why are these good? Well, because great apps are simple AND complex; each of these apps solve a simple problem with a complex solution, are easy to use and understand, and to-the-point.

4. Why does Vine fit that? Because all you can do is create a video and watch videos, quick simple and on the fly.

5. Why is it 6 seconds (6.5 but who is counting...) - That's because 5 was too short, and 10 was too long.

6. Check out our Vines @JWALKNY

A New Reason to Be Smug

Toyota is unveiling a new concept Prius geared at young, urban singles and couples, aptly named the 'Prius C' ('C' is for cookie, or so I've often heard). As a current Prius driver, I can attest to the subtle embarrassment of cruising with the windows down and Kanye blasting from the speakers (Yeezy's beats do not cover those iconically lame curves, resulting in net-loss of swagger). However, these sexy photos give me hope that those days may soon be over. Though it's still just a concept, meaning there may be awkward changes as it matures into a grown-up production car (est. 2012), I'm hopeful that the intended market will keep the design sleek and fun. Best of all, Toyota claims the new model will exceed the current leading mileage of 51 mpg boasted by...the current Prius. So this won't be a fuel-efficient vehicle in name only, unlike some other recent 'contradictory' sport-hybrids.

There's also a tubby new family-version Prius being unveiled, but I'm only 24 and particularly adept at avoiding process servers and ex-girlfriends so whatever.

Freedom to 'SHINE

RJW has had the pleasure of helping launch the digital presence for Original MOONSHINE and today we received a beautiful gift. It's a hardcover book with pages cut out and a bottle of 'SHINE inside (I wish my iphone could do it justice!) This limited edition package isn't available for purchase but Original MOONSHINE will be shortly and don't worry, we'll tell you when! And it wouldn't be me if I didn't tell you to follow MOONSHINE on Facebook and twitter.

Design Solution: Losing Objects Between The Cushions of Your Sofa

Furniture designers are downright cool. While most of us see furniture as just something to sit on (or at best, something to match the color scheme of a room), furniture designers are constantly re-imagining everyday objects as something fantastic. Take a look at this awesomeness:

Sukima Sofa

I believe it was Gertrude Stein who said, "A couch is a couch is a couch is a couch" (right?), but this couch is not just another couch. Designer Daisuke Motogi has created this concept called "Lost in Sofa", which embraces the idea of losing objects in the cracks of your furniture. You can stuff magazines, a remote control, your cellphone, and other small objects into the tight cracks of the furniture, and they will never be lost again.

Sukima Sofa

Now just imagine how much change could be scrounged from between the cracks...

Social Shopping: Svpply.com

Someone tweeted that they were addicted to Svpply.com and well, that's my cue to 'click' on a link. And now, I too am addicted.

So what is it? Well, its a visual stream of products I think are cool. Okay. Seen this 100 times? Well for some reason, it shows just the right content based on your tastes to keep you screaming, 'This is soooo Coool." I can follow those I feel have similar tastes and I can have a  profile of my wish list. So take a look and follow me already: http://svpply.com/jesskantor

Oh, and there's a browser add-on so when I see something I like across the web, I can add-it to my stream and into the Svpply word.

Here are three items I've found and drooled over (click on the image to visit on svpply.com):

Fancy Planters for Fancy Houseplants

I have a lot of plants growing in my apartment- in case you're interested, they're all documented at FarmTina.com. But what I'm saying is, I have a lot of plants that need to live inside planters. Right now, they are in ceramic pots or cheap buckets, and one of them is in a slightly-higher-end white ceramic planter that my mom bought for me. Now if I were more ambitious, I would only buy planters that look like this:

See what I'm saying? Planters. For my houseplants.
